LECTURE WITHIN THE THE URBAN ANTHROPOLOGY COURSE – POST-EARTHQUAKE CITIES

LECTURE WITHIN THE THE URBAN ANTHROPOLOGY COURSE – POST-EARTHQUAKE CITIES

Mirna Tkalčić Simetić held a guest lecture at the Urban Anthropology course held by Valentina Gulin Zrnić at the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Zagreb). Within the lecture, entitled Post-earthquake cities, the lecturer focused on the historical development of the concept of resilience in the social sciences and humanities and critically reflected on its application in anthropology of disaster. Furthermore, the need for reconceptualization of post-disaster recovery is exemplified through a cultural anthropological approach to the current post-earthquake recovery of the cities of Zagreb and Petrinja, which is characterized by temporal dissonance between the linear narrative of recovery and the temporal chaos that affects the everyday life of city dwellers in many different ways. The lecture was held on December 7, 2022.
